Welcome to Pursuing true North’s Truth of the Week Series! I am Catherine King and I’m Jenny Cioto!

This week’s Truth of the Week – James 4:1 – Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? NKJV

~ Fighting within ourselves brings fights outside ourselves

~ It’s hard, isn’t it? Trying to work with others and not let our own desires and ways leach out onto others while we seek to have our way and our will be executed just exactly as we desire?

~ We feel like we deserve things in life to be a certain way. We have expectations and we want what we want when we want it. Sometimes we want things that have nothing to do with the will of God for our lives, we just have selfish desires for pleasure!

~ Sin feels natural. Sin feels good to our bodies. Good feels good to our bodies, too, but so does sin. Sin leaves us with a side of temporary satisfaction, anxiety, depression and harm to our bodies. Holy desires come with a side of longer lasting satisfaction, peace, joy and no harm to our bodies.

~ We should ask ourselves before proceeding to bring up an issue – where is this coming from? Why is my heart so upset? Am I seeking my own way for purely selfish reasons?

~ I (Catherine) personally have a few innate desires inside me that don’t need to be catered to. But my flesh would really like to indulge.

Challenge: Next time we are wanting to fight with another, let us look inward and see what our desires are and bring our issue before God before bringing it before men. He will lead if we let Him!
