This week’s Truth of the Week 35: Show Notes–
James 1:2-4 – My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. NKJV
~ All joy?! Ahhhhh!
~ Looking at the verbiage here – “when you fall….” Not if, but when.
~ One of the ways I have handled some really rough spots in my life was telling myself that there are people out there that have it worse than I did. It still didn’t resolve the pain in my life but it helped with my perspective. Even if others have it worse it does not negate the pain in your life, it just helps a little to recognize that even as hard as you have it, God has protected you from something else.
~ Relying on the fact that we know that these trials are testing our faith and we will be profiting from them!
~ Its is italicized. I didn’t see commentary on why so I’m going to speculate here. It must be that we should recognize that the work that is being done on us is the work of patience and we need to understand that’s what it is.
~ Learning to be patient is against every fiber of our beings as humans
~ Trials and patience bring about a completeness in us. Wholeness. This testing isn’t meant to destroy us but to purge us of our brokenness and refine us into Christian maturity.
~ Some people don’t allow their trials to refine them. You can choose to be bitter about what you are going through. The choice to let it consume you or refine you is entirely up to you.
Challenge: What are your current trials? How are you handling them? Are you handling them with patience and quiet trust or with bitterness and anger? Let patience have its way.
