This week’s Truth of the Week 36: Show Notes–
This week’s Truth of the Week – Matthew 26:41 – Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. ESV
~ Boy do I struggle with having my spirit really desire to behave and speak certain ways and then my weak flesh does the opposite!
~In this verse spoken by Jesus Himself – He was in so much agony praying in Gethsemane. Interesting to note, Gethsemane was East of Jerusalem and was a place where olives were crushed for oil. I love all the symbolism in the Bible
~ Jesus asked His disciples to watch and pray while He went a few away to pray privately. They were sleeping. It was late and Jesus knew they were human and needed supernatural power to fight the temptation that would come upon them in the events that were about to unfold in their lives. Jesus knew they would be tempted. He knows we will be tempted.
~ We are weak without the infusion of the work of God in our lives
~ When Jesus was asked how we as people should pray, He made sure to say, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (Luke 11:4).”
~ When you do succumb to temptation – don’t forget there is mercy, grace and redemption for you bought by the blood of the Lamb.
Challenge: Are you praying, “Lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil?”
