Truth of the Week 8: Grace is Enough
2 Corinthians 12:9 – And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Beginning in Chapter 12 Paul speaks about his visions and the wonderful things he experiences. He seems to be desiring to boast but doesn’t want to be a fool. Not only is this a temptation for him, it must be so much so that God allows a thorn in his side – “a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure (v7).”
Then Paul goes on to beg God to remove this thing. He is never specific in telling the body in writing anyway what he was dealing with. 3 very specific times he pleads and after the 3rd time God responds with our verse of the week.
When God tells you He’s enough for you and His strength is made perfect in weakness – well, there’s your answer. That sucker isn’t going anywhere. What do you do now? Mope around and woe as you it or do you determine now is the time to enjoy the gifting of God’s strength on your life?
Ask for more grace. He loves to give it. Psalm 84:11 – For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.”
Do you walk with God? Know how He desires you to live and try the best you can to follow? When you are talking to Him know He will give you grace and He will not withhold from you.
A few verses down from our verse of the week, Paul takes pleasure in his needs, infirmities, reproaches because he realizes that when he is weak he is strong.
What makes you feel weak? I know we are focusing on our confidence right now but do you realize where you are weak God can do amazingly strong things despite it and through it and you can get confidence even there? He’s made a way for us to be confident even with our glaring deficiencies.
